Keynote Insights: Elevate & Thrive at ATD Sacramento ElevatED!

Back in November, I was the keynote speaker for the ATD (Association of Talent Development) Sacramento ElevatED! Revitalize & Thrive conference. The conference’s theme could not have been more perfectly aligned with the core message of my book, Everybody, Be Cool!—a call to elevate our workplaces by investing in personal growth and development.

For me, Learning & Development (L&D) had always been more than just a profession; it’s a passion. What better way was there to make an impact than by encouraging personal growth? I believe that we should always be learning and growing in some way.

Throughout my career, I’ve been driven by the belief that continuous learning and personal growth are the keys to transforming both individuals and organizations. ATD has been instrumental in this journey, offering workshops, certifications, and a supportive community that has pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined. Being invited to speak was both an honor and a responsibility—a chance to share my insights and encourage others on their path.

The Heart of My Message: Elevation Through Self-Awareness & Compassion

At the core of my keynote was the idea that elevating the workplace begins with building genuine human connections. By cultivating self-awareness and compassion, we can enhance communication, foster collaboration, and resolve conflicts more effectively.

It’s not just “woo woo.” It’s what we need to thrive as people, teams, and organizations.

I shared practical strategies centered on “power skills” (commonly known as soft skills), emphasizing that a deeper understanding of emotional intelligence can transform how we lead and interact. One memorable moment was when a participant remarked, “I never realized how much empathy could turn a difficult conversation into an opportunity for growth.” Such insights underscore the transformative impact of these skills.

Power skills (AKA soft skills) encompass so many vital skills needed in the workplace and the world!

What Attendees Walked Away With

The session was designed to equip attendees with actionable strategies for real-world success. Key takeaways included:

  • Enhanced Self-Awareness: Techniques for introspection and personal growth.

  • Improved Communication: Methods to turn challenging conversations into constructive dialogue.

  • Effective Conflict Resolution: Strategies to foster collaboration and resolve disagreements.

As an added bonus, the first 75 registrants received a complimentary copy of my book, Everybody, Be Cool!

Incredible Lineup and Inspiring Moments

Beyond my keynote, the conference featured an impressive roster of industry experts. Katrina Kennedy —often described as “an L&D Sacramento legend”—brought her unique insight to the event, leaving attendees buzzing with fresh ideas for applying their learning in practical, meaningful ways. I had the opportunity to attend several breakout sessions afterward, and I was continually inspired by the wisdom and innovative approaches shared by all the speakers.

The Takeaway

The ATD Sacramento ElevatED! conference was about more than just checking the box on professional development. It was about learning professionals recharging their own learning journey and leaving with strategies that genuinely impact themselves as individuals as well as their organizations. 😎
